Tue, 28 April 2009 This whole episode is devoted to an exploration of "imaginary friendship." And some great guests are along for the ride. First, Rick and Karen from Starbase 66 join me to talk about how the Starbase launched and how people who've never actually met can be such great friends. Karen shares the details of a recent face-to-face with another of our Web friends, and then my globetrotting pal Chris P. Bacon calls from Australia to add to the fun. Note: I don't know why some of the audio is stuck in the left channel. I'm working on it. Comments[1] |
Nice Show, K! I really felt for you after hearing the show with your partner, as my wife shares the same view of online friendships. Lots I could say, but I basically I don't think the use of modern technology to make new friends in any way negates the fact you've found someone you can get along with. I've met several of the friends I made through The Church forum, Hotelwomb, and they are great people. Luckily, we have the occasional tour by the band as an excuse to get together. In particular I remember the 2002 show in Chicago that drew an international crowd of "imaginary friends" together. Ah, I could go on, but my work break is over now! Peace!
